Time2Vote... Just g's lift the person above you and bright ideas stencil challenges
So, first of all, I was quick enough this round to get in and get to lift one of my all-time favorite scrappers, Just g. I had a hard time picking just one layout, but ended up being drawn to this one: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/79004-file-this-under .
I loved the all the file tabs running vertically down the page and I knew I wanted something similar. I also loved the big words on the side and wanted something (non-digital) in that area...
in comes the stencil challenge from the Bright Ideas class. For my stencil, I used a Studio Calico sundays digital cut (from the Trendspotting class). Instead of using the cut as a mask, I used the negative as a stencil. I then brought out my rarely used watercolor paint set and my water pencil/brush and started coloring. I knew I was going to use a pen outline, so I wasn't worried about bleeding a little. Originally, I wanted a red/white/blue version, but it didn't look right when I was done so I added the greens and yellows. Then when all was said and done, the watercoloring was just a smidge too pale. So, I went over the colors with some Pebbles chalks, and that did the trick!
I used Barn Door distress ink on the thickers and added shine with Maya Mist cream. The journaling card was made with 2 Laina Lamb My Favorite Things stamps. I'm having so much fun with her designs!
