We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented Neela Nalam as one of our guest designers this month and are excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Neela here at Studio Calico

Hello! I'm Neela. I'm a mom to two boys who are 13 and 8. I can't believe that my 13-year-old will be going to high school in August. It's a huge milestone for parents and kids, I think. I live in sunny Santa Barbara. I consider myself super blessed to be living here. I've been scrapbooking on and off for many years, but I got into online scrapbooking right around the time I discovered Studio Calico. I love making traditional layouts, and recently, I'm also doing a lot of pocket page spreads. The creation process for both types of projects is quite different, and I enjoy switching between one type of project to another. I have also filled in a few pages in a traveler's notebook, but I'll be doing more of these projects as I've started subscribing to the Studio Calico Travelers Notebook Kits. I love colorful, simple, and versatile products, and Studio Calico products totally fit the bill. Over the last year and a half, I've also created three classes for Big Picture Classes. I totally enjoyed coming up with ideas and creating the videos and content for the classes. I hope to make more videos for my YouTube channel also.

I loved both the neutral tones and super colorful tones in the "Golden Hour" Documenter Kit. I made two projects with both types of cards. I also used the versatile stamp set that comes with this kit on both the projects.

August | Fort Wayne – I absolutely wanted to use the cork word, "August." So that was pretty much the inspiration and starting point for this spread. I searched for photos that were taken in August over the years. I found these great ones from our trip to Fort Wayne where we spent time with my family. The photos were very colorful, so I considered changing them all to black and white. But then when I put the cards and the photos together, I realized that the colors in the photos went great with the colors in the cards. So I ended up making this colorful spread and l love the outcome. I used the chipboard stickers generously on this spread because I loved them so much and couldn't stop.

Magic – For the second spread, I was inspired by the theme of "Magic" in this kit. When I think of magic, I think of my younger son. His happiness to enjoy little things makes me so happy to watch. I hope he holds on to this special attribute for life. I picked some photos of him having the best time at the beach. I must have made a ton of layouts of my kids at the beach, but it makes me so happy to make more of them all the time. For this spread, I used more neutral cards from the kit. The wood veneer stars went so well with the theme of magic, and I also used the chipboard stickers related to magic on this spread. I wrote some journaling and tucked it with the details chipboard stapled to it behind one of the cards. I loved making this spread with neutrals and pops of bright red.
