Guest Designer | Diane Payne

We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented Diane Payne as one of our guest designers this month and are excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Diane here at Studio Calico.

Hello! I’m Diane Payne and I live in Texas with my husband. We are empty-nesters with two college-age kiddos, Wyatt and Alyssa, and two cute little fur babies, Dixie Rose and Daisy Mae. I'm a flight attendant, and when I'm not jet-setting for work, I enjoy hanging out at home. I love exploring places all over the world and documenting my experiences and family life along the way. I started scrapbooking shortly after my second child was born. I like making layouts in a variety of sizes but my favorite size is 9" x 12" or 12" x 12". I also enjoy documenting day-to-day activities in a Traveler's Notebook. My favorite subjects to scrapbook include my family, travels, and vintage photos. My designs are most often colorful with a mix of patterned paper and embellishments.

So Lovely – The acrylic paints in the "Be Happy" Scrapbook Kit were a lot of fun to use along with the patterned papers when creating this background for my vintage photo. I embellished the design with a mix of die-cuts, chipboard pieces, stamped pieces using the stamp set, and some stitching. My journaling was typed and cut into word strips. To help them stand out, I inked the edges with a marker.

I Call this...Work – Using the green acrylic paint in the "Be Happy" Scrapbook Kit, I created a background for my photo. I love how the green paint complements the green and blue in my photo. Using the patterned paper in the kit, I hand cut the clouds to use as die-cuts and placed them over the leaves in the photo. The title was created using the vellum alpha sticker and outlined with a marker to make it pop of the page. For the finishing touches, I punched circles from the patterned paper included in the kit along with a chipboard piece.

Tacos 4-Ever –  What can be better than tacos, fabric paper, and stamps?! I loved the fabric and stamps in the "Be Happy" Scrapbook Kit and used them to highlight photos of my visit to original Torchy's Tacos, my favorite taco joint. I used the sun rays stamp to create a border under the paper and photo cluster and embellished with stars. Along the bottom of the layout, I included the paper name/manufacture info. I loved the title of the paper and thought it fit well with the theme of the layout.
