Journal Projectposted 06/27/2008
Since November 2007, we’ve been waiting to bring you another journal project kit. This 8.5×6” journal, with graph paper inside, is the perfect project to make as a gift or to keep for yourself.
My family loves to play card games, so I plan to use this journal as a place to keep score. Maybe then, I can document all my victories!
Here’s what you will need:
Mod Podge
Foam Paintbrush
Needle & Thread
Step 1:
Punch letters out of the 12×12 sheet and lay them on 2 pieces of chipboard. I selected the “A” and “F” to elevate by gluing them to the corresponding blackboard.
Step 2: Adhere the letters to the chipboard using Mod Podge. Allow letters to “hang” over the edge. After drying, trim the excess.
Step 3:
Add a layer of Mod Podge over the entire cover.
Step 4:
Cut bookbinding tape to 12”, peel backing and lay flat on table, sticky side up. Place chipboard pieces upside down over the tape approximately 1.25” apart.
Step 5:
Cut remaining bookbinding tape to 7.5”, peel backing and place along the spine of the book.
Step 6:
Fold ends into the center, pressing along the gutter to seal.
Step 7:
Beginning with the back cover, brush a layer of Mod Podge on the inside, then place the book, allowing the spine to hang over the bookbinding tape.
Repeat with front cover.
Step 8:
Now the book is complete, begin decorating the elastic band. I used one Prima Painterly blossom (to make more durable, you may coat the blossom with Mod Podge) and a vintage button. Simply hold blossom with the button on the elastic band and sew together.
